The objective of the method is to make the design better testable and to introduce the aspect of test as soon as possible in the design cycle and development flow. This is done based on a set of DFT guidelines and the transfer of know-how and providing guidance for the improvement of existing tools and the development of new tools (such as the Muяphy Workbench).
In addition, a second objective of the method is to provide guidelines for clear documentation and an activity impact matrix detailing the impact of DFT decisions on HW & SW development.
So far test is seen as something to be done after the design and development cycles are completed. Growing product complexity makes this approach inefficient and very cumbersome. This limits also the achievable test coverage. This has a negative impact on product quality and reliability assurance and drives up the product manufacturing costs.
By introducing the concepts and aspects of test and design for test right from the start of a product/system conception, allows to build cost effective high quality products/systems.
Make sure that the test topic is considered as part of the design development flow right from the beginning. A test consultant or expert should be part of the development team.
Monitor the application of the DFT guidelines and the rules for proper documentation throughout the design/development phase.
Assessment of DFT guideline and documentation guidelines application.
