Distributed information management
As a company with a distributed development team in up to three different locations for the same systems, the need for a collaboration tool to integrate documentation, code and tickets was identified.
The first step that was made, previously to the evaluation of the tools was the deployment of a VPN that connects all of the development centers of Datapixel.
After the communication was established, the following tools proposed as part of the project were tested:
· Subversion SVN for version control of code and documentation
· Trac for version administering and accessing code, documentation and Bug reports
· Tortoise for SVN as the tool for every developer to manage code revisions
· Plugins for Trac to enhance the standard functionality
Since these tools were included in our development workflow, the help that they are providing to manage the versions iterations couldn’t be clearer. The whole development team is using currently SVN and the rest of the tools starting from documentation versioning to code versioning and version tagging.
The configuration management has been improved dramatically and team memebers feel more confident with current process.
